Seventeen years after the original film with Sylvester Stallone came out, Judge Dredd is back on screen in this latest adventure. No Sly this time around, but some visually breathtaking action sequences which you can enjoy in 3D.
Less to do with Danny Canon’s 1995 action flick and more to do with the 2000 AD comic book, “Dredd” takes us on a high-octane trip in a disturbing future where the human race, ravaged by past conflicts and nuclear wars, lives inside sky-high tower blocks under the vigilance of judges, who have replaced the police.
As portrayed by Stallone and Armand Assante all those years ago, these judges have the ability to arrest, convict and execute criminals and are therefore feared and hated by the population. Here, Dredd is depicted by Karl Urban (Born Supremacy, Lord of The Rings), who teams up with young rookie Anderson (Olivia Thirlby – The Darkest Hour) to take on one of the most dangerous tower blocks : the Peach Trees.
Up top lives the evil Ma-Ma, the biggest dealer of the most popular drug around : Slo Mo. This recreational substance enables the user to experience the passing of time at only 1% of it’s speed, which from an artistic point of view is a real gold mine. The slow-motion sequences are simply spectacular and the 3D further enhances the beauty of it all.
The movie premiers in England on September 7th but find out more about “Dredd” with Orange Wednesdays and check out the trailer right now !
